Mercer: San Francisco Is the Hub of Innovation
A corporate video for Mercer positioning San Francisco as a global center of innovation, created entirely with motion graphics to support the firm’s workforce and HR consulting business.
Motion Graphics Video for Mercer
Capitola Media produced an all motion graphics corporate video for Mercer centered on the idea that San Francisco is a hub of innovation. The video was created to support Mercer’s business in the San Francisco market and communicate the connection between the region’s culture of innovation and the changing needs of organizations and their workforces.
Mercer is a global consulting firm that works with organizations across workforce strategy, employee health and benefits, retirement, investments, and related business challenges. For a company operating in the Bay Area, San Francisco provides a natural context for conversations about innovation, competition, talent, and organizational change.
Rather than using interviews or live action footage, the project was built entirely through animation and graphic design. This approach allowed the story to develop through typography, graphic elements, movement, and visual transitions while maintaining a consistent corporate identity throughout the piece.
Turning a Business Message Into Motion
An all motion graphics video requires a different production process from a conventional corporate shoot. There are no locations, performers, or interviews to carry the narrative visually. Every element appearing on screen has to be designed, timed, animated, and integrated with the larger story. For the Mercer video, the creative challenge was to translate a broad idea, San Francisco as a center of innovation, into a concise visual narrative that could support Mercer’s business messaging without allowing the graphics to overwhelm the information.
Capitola Media approached the project as both a design and storytelling assignment. Visual pacing, typography, composition, transitions, and animation work together to guide the viewer through the message. This is particularly important for business communications in which abstract concepts such as innovation, workforce change, organizational strategy, and competitive advantage need to be communicated clearly and efficiently. The project reflects Capitola Media’s broader approach to corporate video production, where the format and production method are selected around the communication objective rather than forcing every project into the same production model.
Corporate Storytelling Without a Camera
Motion graphics can be especially effective when the subject is conceptual rather than physical. Animation gives a company control over every visual element and makes it possible to build relationships between words, ideas, data, locations, and brand elements that would be difficult to communicate through live action alone. For Mercer, the animated format created a focused way to associate its business with San Francisco’s larger innovation economy while keeping the presentation professional and brand driven.
The project also demonstrates the importance of post production as a primary creative discipline rather than simply the final stage of a video shoot. Editing, graphic design, animation, and visual effects can carry the entire communication when the story is built around ideas rather than photographed action.
Video Production for San Francisco Business
San Francisco and the greater Bay Area remain an important market for companies communicating complex ideas about technology, business transformation, talent, and innovation. Capitola Media works with organizations throughout the region to develop video content for corporate communications, marketing, product launches, recruiting, events, and other business needs.
The Mercer project demonstrates how animation can carry an entire corporate story when live action is not necessary. From visual concept through final motion design, the finished video uses graphics to turn an abstract business message into a concise, cohesive piece of branded communication. For companies communicating to audiences in one of the world’s most innovation focused business markets, Capitola Media provides San Francisco video production across live action, motion graphics, and post production.
