OpenTV Product Demo I

Capitola Media worked with OpenTV in San Francisco to produce this product demonstration video, combining production and post-production with motion graphics. The project presents television technology through a recognizable viewing experience, giving the product a human context alongside its screen-based functionality. It is the first of two OpenTV films produced for the client.

Connecting Technology With the Viewing Experience

For a television platform, much of the product’s value becomes visible through the interface and the way people interact with programming. The tablet imagery in this film brings those elements together: a viewer holds a device displaying entertainment content and program information. The scene connects the digital experience with the person using it, giving the audience a concrete point of reference for an otherwise technical offering.

This is a useful foundation for product demo video production. A demonstration needs to make the relationship between the user, the screen and the product understandable. Familiar environments can establish that relationship, while interface imagery gives the audience a closer view of what is being presented. The production challenge is to keep those elements working together within a clear visual explanation.

Production and Post-Production in San Francisco

Our OpenTV assignment included both the shoot and the post-production, with motion graphics forming part of the finished project. Bringing those disciplines together matters when a film combines photographed environments with digital content. Camera composition, screen legibility and the treatment of graphics all affect how the audience reads the final image, so the production and editorial approach need to support the same product story.

The project demonstrates how a technical subject can be introduced through everyday use, with the visual presentation connecting the product to an experience its audience can recognize. That approach is relevant to companies whose services are delivered through software, connected devices or digital interfaces.

Two Films for OpenTV

This film and OpenTV Product Demo II represent two separate productions for the client. The companion film presents OpenTV’s television platform in a home-viewing setting and was featured at the International Broadcast Convention in Amsterdam. Together, the projects show how live-action product communication can give television technology a practical, audience-facing form.
