StudyAce EdTech Product Launch Video
Product launch video for StudyAce and MightyPlay, introducing an educational app that connects course content with learning games, flashcards and practice tests.
StudyAce EdTech Product Launch Video
Capitola Media partnered with MightyPlay to produce a launch video for StudyAce, an educational app built around learning games, flashcards and practice tests. We worked with the client from initial concept through pre-production, filming, post-production and final delivery, bringing the product’s educational purpose into a film made to introduce it to a new audience. The project connects our experience in commercial production with the particular demands of explaining a digital learning product.
A Learning Product Built Around Participation
StudyAce was developed to help students engage with the material they were already studying. Its customizable activities included matching, sorting, labeling, spelling and multiple-choice games, alongside flashcards and practice tests. Students and teachers could create learning activities as well as use prepared material, giving the platform a role alongside textbooks, educational videos and other course resources. Its mission centered on making study more engaging and supporting students’ understanding of course content.
The team behind StudyAce brought together experience in curriculum, interactive entertainment and educational product development. Co-founders Maureen Bunney and Madeline Schroeder had worked in educational gaming and built products through MightyPlay for organizations including Disney and Common Sense Media. That combination of learning expertise and game design provides useful context for the product: the activities were designed around subject matter, with play serving as a way to encourage participation in study.
Making an Educational App Understandable
A launch film for a learning platform has to connect several questions. What is the product? Who is it for? How does it fit into studying? Why would someone want to try it? For StudyAce, those questions bring the student experience and the product’s learning tools into the same communication challenge. Explaining the app means giving viewers a clear way to understand its purpose, rather than expecting a list of features to carry the entire story.
This is where product demo video production and commercial storytelling meet. A learning app needs a recognizable human context as well as a clear explanation of its functionality. The student group featured in the film’s imagery makes that connection tangible: people, a mobile device and a shared moment of attention. For an EdTech audience, that combination can make an unfamiliar digital product easier to approach.
From Creative Development to Location Production
Our involvement covered the full production process, starting with the concept and continuing through preparation, the shoot and the finished edit. Maintaining that continuity matters on a product launch because the creative idea, practical filming decisions and final communication all need to support the same introduction. The film had to work as a coherent presentation of StudyAce, with the production serving the product and its audience.
On set, the production used a RED EPIC camera, with the director of photography, gaffer and grip coordinating the lighting around the talent. The setup included an HMI light and exterior light control. These details reflect the care behind live-action product work: shaping illumination, preparing the camera and giving performers a workable environment are part of building a polished image. Our full-service production approach brings those responsibilities together with the creative and post-production work.
Connecting Course Content With Interactive Practice
StudyAce’s partnership with Wiley extended its approach to the publisher’s Real World Psychology and Contemporary Business titles in VitalSource Bookshelf. Wiley used StudyAce’s authoring tools to create chapter-related games, while links connected the electronic textbooks with the platform’s activities and back to the reading. This illustrates the product’s relevance to education publishers as well as individual learners: interactive practice could sit alongside established course content.
A Launch Film With a Clear Educational Purpose
The completed project gave MightyPlay a video introduction to StudyAce and its approach to learning. It also demonstrates how EdTech video production can connect a company’s educational mission with a practical explanation of its product. For learning apps, curriculum platforms and education brands, the opportunity is to make the relationship between learner, content and technology understandable through a focused story.
