Edison Awards at the Computer History Museum
Capitola Media handled the full production of the Edison Awards at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. Our work included interviews produced for presentation during the ceremony, full audiovisual production, recording of the live program and still photography.
The ceremony honored IDEO founder David Kelley and Dr. Susan Desmond-Hellmann of Genentech with Edison Achievement Awards, recognizing their contributions to design and biotechnology. The wider program celebrated innovative products and services across industries. Capitola Media also supported the event as a sponsor alongside Google, The Nielsen Company and Steelcase.
Interviews Produced for the Live Program
Before the ceremony, we filmed and edited interviews with David Kelley and Dr. Susan Desmond-Hellmann, the two principal Edison Achievement Award recipients, for presentation during the event. These videos formed part of the live program, bringing recorded conversations into the room alongside the onstage presentations and awards.
Producing the interviews and handling their playback connected our interview video production with the event’s technical operation. The finished pieces had to be ready for presentation within the ceremony, with the video and audio prepared for the venue’s AV system.
Full AV and Event Recording
Capitola Media managed the event’s audiovisual setup and operation, including sound, lighting and presentation playback. We coordinated the technical production around the speakers, award presentations and interview videos so that the live program and its media worked together.
We also recorded the ceremony, preserving the presentations and remarks beyond the live event. Our responsibilities covered both the experience in the room and the recorded program, with production and post-production handled as part of the same assignment.
Still Photography
Still photography complemented the event recording with photographs of the ceremony, speakers and awards presentations. Providing both video and photography gave the Edison Awards a record of the occasion in motion and still images.
Recognizing Leaders in Design and Biotechnology
David Kelley’s work at IDEO and Stanford’s d.school helped establish an approach to design centered on understanding people and their needs. Dr. Susan Desmond-Hellmann’s work at Genentech helped advance targeted cancer therapies, including Herceptin and Avastin. Their recognition brought design and medical innovation together within the evening’s program.
