Interview Video Production

Interviews That Give the Story a Human Voice

Capitola Media produces interview videos for executive communications, customer stories, company films, technical explanations, recruiting and documentary projects. We combine research, question development and participant preparation with professional cameras, lighting, sound and postproduction.

The interview may be the finished program or the foundation for a larger film. In either case, preparation starts with the audience, subject and intended use. A conversation with a founder, a technical specialist and a customer should produce different contributions, not three versions of the same company message.

Selected Interview Productions

Our Audi USA executive interview in San Francisco combined a teleprompter-equipped primary camera and a Ronin-mounted second angle. Professional sound and client monitoring supported a controlled recording environment for prepared messaging.

The three-camera interview for HP gave the edit complementary views of a continuous conversation. For a Sitecore founder fireside chat, a wide two-shot and separate angles on each participant preserved the exchange between interviewer and guest. The camera plan followed the format of the conversation.

Our Occidental Petroleum recruiting film combined employee interviews with field production in Long Beach Harbor and Bakersfield. An elevated oil-derrick setup 40 feet above ground illustrates how the working environment can become part of an employee story.

Questions and Participant Preparation

We review the brief, supporting materials and the participant's role before developing questions. Open questions and specific follow-ups help speakers explain a decision, describe an experience or give an example. The interviewer listens for useful detail rather than simply moving through a prepared list.

Participants receive practical information about the recording, audience, topics and intended use. Preparation should make the session comfortable without turning every answer into memorized copy. A speaker can pause, restart or clarify a point. Where exact wording is necessary, a script or teleprompter can be incorporated.

Customer conversations require particular care with firsthand experience. Our testimonial video production approach seeks specific accounts of the need, decision, implementation and outcome rather than unsupported praise.

Choosing the Camera and Recording Format

A single-camera setup can suit a focused interview or a discreet production footprint. Two or three cameras provide alternative framing and additional edit points. The number of cameras should serve the editorial plan, not become an end in itself.

We coordinate framing, eyelines, lenses, exposure and color across the selected cameras. Professional sound is planned alongside the image, with microphones, monitoring and recording methods appropriate to the speaker and environment. Background noise and room reflections can matter as much as the visual appeal of a location.

For two-person conversations and panels, coverage must include the relationship between participants as well as individual statements. Seating, lighting and microphone placement should allow the discussion to feel natural.

Offices, Studios and Remote Participants

We assess recording locations for space, privacy, access, background activity, windows and sound. An office can give the interview useful context, while a studio can offer more control. Setup and participant schedules are planned separately so the recording window is not consumed by avoidable technical preparation.

Remote and multi-location programs may use local crews, managed recording, professional kits or a combination of approaches. Shared visual references and technical instructions help keep the material consistent. Remote client participation can also be included when stakeholders need to monitor or direct without attending the shoot.

Supporting Footage and Editorial Construction

An interview is often stronger when viewers can see the work being discussed. We plan workplace footage, product use, software screens, documents, photographs or other relevant imagery around the questions. Existing client media can be incorporated where it meets the technical and editorial requirements.

Editing removes repetition and false starts while preserving the participant's meaning. The scope can include a complete interview, a company film, shorter topic-based excerpts, graphics, captions, sound and color. Our corporate video production services can develop the interview into a broader communication program.

Scope, Reviews and Delivery

Budget and schedule depend on the participants, locations, filming days, camera approach, supporting footage and final edits. We agree on review stages and deliverables before production. Clients approve participants, intended uses, permissions, confidential information, claims and completed content.

Capitola Media supports interviews in San Francisco and the Bay Area, New York City, Los Angeles and other production locations. Discuss your interview project with the subject, audience, proposed location, available recording time and required final versions.
